Mari's Story

Ronald McDonald House Fort WorthMari's mom, Tiffany, is a Senior Airman in the Air Force and in May 2015, she was deployed 7,688 miles away in the hot desert of Kuwait. At 2:30 a.m., May 20, Tiffany was awakened with a hone call that changed her life forever. Twenty-two-month-old Mari had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Thirty-six hours after Tiffany received the call, she was back in the U.S., thanks to the Red Cross. On May 21, Tiffany was reunited with Mari and the long journey of Mari's cancer fight began. After a month's stay at the hospital, Tiffany and Mari found a home-away-from-home at the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth in June 2015.

Tiffany says that the House has helped out in many ways that she couldn't express. "If I could let any family know what the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth means to us, I would have to say that it is a loving family that made me and my family part of a bigger family because they took us in under their roof like any family would," Tiffany says. "The House made us a part of a forever family and a home that we will never forget!"

Mari's treatment plan is two-and-a-half years. While staying at the House, Mari had spinal taps weekly for a month. She also underwent chemotherapy treatments four days a week and bone marrow extractions until they checked out of the House in March 2016. Mari is now in maintenance and will travel back to the House with her mom or grandmother for monthly treatments.
